A quick and comforting dessert made with canned pears, brown sugar, and warm spices. This easy recipe requires no peeling or preheating, resulting in a glossy, cinnamon-infused syrup that tastes like it simmered for hours.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans pears in light syrup
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Open the cans of pears and drain the liquid, reserving the pears.
  2. Place a small saucepan over medium heat and add the butter, melting it completely (about 1-2 minutes).
  3. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the melted butter. Stir constantly for about 1 minute until the sugar begins to dissolve.
  4. Add the 2 tablespoons of water and keep stirring until the mixture is smooth and bubbly.
  5. Add the drained pears to the saucepan and gently toss to coat them evenly in the sauce.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the pears to heat through and the sauce to thicken slightly. Avoid stirring too much to prevent breaking the pears.
  7. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  8. Taste and adjust sweetness or spice if needed, then serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Use pears in light syrup, not heavy syrup or juice, to control sweetness and sauce consistency. Ensure spices are fresh for best flavor. If the sauce gets too thick, add a splash of water; if too thin, simmer longer. For a vegan version, substitute butter with coconut oil. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or yogurt.
