Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup (240g) pumpkin puree
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour (for streusel)
  • 1/4 cup (50g) packed brown sugar (for streusel)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for streusel)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed (for streusel)
  • 1/4 cup (40g) mini chocolate chips (optional, for streusel)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in pumpkin puree and vanilla extract until combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Gently fold in 1 cup chocolate chips with a spatula.
  7. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup flour, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in mini chocolate chips if using.
  8. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle streusel topping generously over the batter.
  9. Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cover loosely with foil after 30 minutes if browning too quickly.
  10. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Ensure pumpkin puree is thick and not watery. Do not overmix the batter to avoid a dense texture. Keep butter cold for the streusel to ensure crunchy crumbs. Let bread cool completely before slicing to prevent crumbling.
