A rich, tangy, and smooth caramel dip made with cream cheese and butter, perfect for dipping crisp apples or graham crackers. This easy party snack comes together in under 30 minutes without the need for a candy thermometer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 pinch flaky sea salt
  • 34 large crisp apples (such as Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji), sliced
  • Graham crackers, optional for serving

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until completely liquid.
  2. Add the brown sugar and stir constantly until the sugar dissolves into the butter.
  3. Slowly pour in the heavy cream while whisking vigorously to prevent lumps.
  4. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until it thickens slightly.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the caramel sauce cool for 10 minutes.
  6. In a mixing bowl, place the softened cream cheese and break it into chunks.
  7. Add the powdered sugar and a pinch of salt to the cream cheese.
  8. Using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the mixture until smooth and creamy.
  9. Pour the cooled caramel sauce into the cream cheese mixture.
  10. Beat on low speed to incorporate, then increase to medium-high until fully combined and smooth.
  11. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set.
  12. While the dip chills, wash, core, and slice the apples into wedges or rounds.
  13. Remove the dip from the fridge, give it a quick stir, and serve with apple slices.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is softened to room temperature to avoid lumps. If the dip is too thick after chilling, add a teaspoon of milk or cream to loosen it. The dip can be made up to 3 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Do not freeze as the texture may become grainy.
