A festive, easy-to-make Halloween dessert using simple pantry staples. This fluffy monkey bread features orange and black colored biscuit dough coated in cinnamon sugar, resulting in a gooey, crowd-pleasing treat perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Orange and black gel food coloring
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze, optional)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 10-inch bundt pan or 9-inch round cake pan generously with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl or saucepan. Let it cool slightly so it is warm but not scalding.
  4. Open the biscuit dough and tear each biscuit into 8-10 smaller pieces. Place pieces in a large zip-top bag or bowl.
  5. If using food coloring, add orange and black gel coloring to separate batches of dough and toss gently to distribute color.
  6. Add the dough pieces to the sugar-spice mixture and toss until evenly coated.
  7. Drizzle the melted butter over the coated dough and toss again to bind the sugar to the dough.
  8. Transfer the coated dough pieces into the prepared pan, arranging them with some space between pieces for air circulation.
  9. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Cover with foil if browning too quickly.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes to set.
  11. Invert onto a serving plate. If desired, mix powdered sugar and milk to create a glaze and drizzle over the warm bread.
  12. Serve immediately while warm and gooey.

Notes

Ensure the pan is well-greased to prevent sticking. Use gel food coloring to avoid making the dough soggy. Do not pack the dough too tightly in the pan to ensure even cooking. For a dairy-free option, substitute butter with coconut oil. For a vegan version, use vegan biscuit dough and coconut oil.
